Do you need to stop hydroxychloroquine before surgery

So far I have no more energy than when I first started and has developed neuropathy which I have just found out from Web MD that this neuropathy is one of the side effects of this med! Saying that by stopping this it would take another 6 months to build up the benefit. There are other meds that can help with what you are experiencing, and if your doctor didn't address that then I would seek out a second opinion... Please don't stop your plaquenil until you are sure it is the right thing to do and in your best interest.

Aug 26, 2016 The 1-2 months is correct. It’s about 45 days before it starts to go out of your system. Remember it is cumulative, and took time to build up for an effect when you started taking it. It has an enormous half life. That’s why I laugh when some people’s surgeons tell them stop taking it 2 weeks before surgery. It does nothing. Evidence for this comes from a randomized clinical trial in which patients with rheumatoid arthritis RA were assigned to either continue on methotrexate MTX or suspend taking it for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery. The study also contained a control of patients with RA who were not on MTX Ann. Rheum. Dis. This phase I / II trial studies the side effects and best dose of hydroxychloroquine when given together with palbociclib and letrozole before surgery in treating participants with estrogen receptor positive, HER2 negative breast cancer. Hydroxychloroquine is a substance that decreases immune responses in the body.

Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. Or maybe another doctor if you're not comfortable w/your current one.
