    Cipro damage

I took cipro 500 mg for 7 days twice daily in Aug 2011. By November I started having joint pain in my knees, hips, neck, ankles. In February 2012, I spontaneously suffered severe tendonitis to my right wrist and thumb. I spontaneoiusly began to feel extreme tightness in my right knee..which led to my kneecap moving and popping and causing extreme pain and mobility problems, now can barely walk, or straighten my knee... And this week...ankles are beginning to feel tight and inflexible. Ive been in PT for my wrist since March 2012..still have pain and usage problems..not better. I am terrified I am going to eventually be unable to walk... I was a very healthy 57 year old when this all began. Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is a brand-name prescription antibiotic medication. Could Your Antibiotic Cause You Permanent Nerve Damage? According to a recent FDAs safety communication, use of fluoroquinolone antibiotics may lead to permanent nerve damage in some patients. Joe Graedon The People's Pharmacy October 7, 2013 Default 166 Comments Cipro Nerve Damage Symptoms. When Cipro causes nerve damage or peripheral neuropathy, symptoms may appear shortly after treatment is initiated, and they can persist long after a patient stops taking the antibiotic. Some sufferers have continued to experience weakness, numbness and pain for years. While there is much debate about how much damage these drugs do, there is no debate that Cipro and tendonitis are related, and that this class of drugs even leads to tendon rupture.

[Posted 12/20/2018]AUDIENCE: Health Professional, Infectious Disease, Cardiology, Patient ISSUE: FDA review found that fluoroquinolone antibiotics can increase the occurrence of rare but serious events of ruptures or tears in the main artery of the body, called the aorta. These tears, called aortic dissections, or ruptures of an aortic aneurysm can lead to dangerous bleeding or even death. They can occur with fluoroquinolones for systemic use given by mouth or through an injection. BACKGROUND: Fluoroquinolone antibiotics are approved to treat certain bacterial infections and have been used for more than 30 years. They work by killing or stopping the growth of bacteria that can cause illness. Without treatment, some infections can spread and lead to serious health problems (see List of Currently Available FDA-Approved Systemic Fluoroquinolones, available at RECOMMENDATION: Healthcare professionals should: Taking ciprofloxacin increases the risk that you will develop tendinitis (swelling of a fibrous tissue that connects a bone to a muscle) or have a tendon rupture (tearing of a fibrous tissue that connects a bone to a muscle) during your treatment or for up to several months afterward. The warnings are specific to the association these drugs have with disrupting the healthy function of connective tissue, potentially causing tendon rupture and retinal detachment. Inflammation of tendons (tendonitis) is also a risk factor of taking these drugs. A number of journals have published studies about these side effects, and the drugs do have a black box warning. Ciprofloxacin has historically been used as a first line antibiotic for many types of infections, but has been recommended against in recent years. It is still sometimes used, however, and both patients and doctors should be aware of the risks involved in its use. In addition to tendon rupture and retinal detachment, other connective tissue types may be involved. Two retrospective studies have shown an association between fluoroquinolone use and cardiovascular complications. Patients having taken fluoroquinolones had an elevated risk for aneurysms and dissections than patients who had not taken these antibiotics.
