  6. I've been taking plaquenil since I was diagnosed. It really released the joint pain from Lupus within a month. I don't think ice ever had any side effects. Although I do get my eyes tested every year - the doctor is watching for retinal damage which is a potential side effect. My eyes have never shown any damage from the plaquenil.

This dosing would NOT apply to someone already taking plaquenil, because it has a very long ~ 30 days half-life, and it’s already in your system, so you just keep on keep’n on. This is not intended to be medical advice; this is just a reminder to refill whatever Rx for plaquenil you might already have. For Systemic Lupus Erythematosus "Plaquenil Users Beware Drug can make you completely blind re toxic maculopathy I took Plaquenil for over 13 years. One retina specialist said because of the toxic maculopathy it caused. *even if you quit taking the drug, it can continue to damage the eye until blindness occurs. That's disgusting. I'm between insurances right now new insurance doesn't kick in for another month and it's awful to have to ration my meds because I can't afford them without it. Hydroxychloroquine lets me function as a normal human being, but it's like $200 at cost for 30 days' worth!
