Do joints hurt more when starting plaquenil

Plaquenil is used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites that enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Malaria is common in areas such as Africa, South America, and Southern Asia.

I started experiencing joint pain in my hips. Does Plaquenil actually stop joint pain in Lupus or does it just slow your progress in Lupus? It was never actually explained to me and I have stopped going to my rheumatologist due to his negative attitude. He was alway "you can't do this, don't do this, etc". A lot of people have less than 4, or as in my case, more than 4 but spread out over much more than 5 years. So it's very possible for plaquenil to do good without you being considered to have Lupus. I went on plaquenil in 2004 for joint pain, high ANA and pericarditis. I've been taking plaquenil for about 5 years now. I gain weight with it. I take daypro for my RA also. I think the daypro helps with the swelling, as far as the pain goes there is always pain, in time you just learn to ignor and grow a higher tolerance for pain. I've had RA for 18 years. I'm 40 now. I was 22 when I found out I had RA.

Plaquenil is also an antirheumatic medicine and is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. This medicine is not effective against all strains of malaria.

  6. Sjs causes an inflammatory arthritis which can cause swelling and pain but does not do harm to the joints themselves. I guess you could call that a blessing. The difference between Plaquenil and drugs like methotrexate is the P blocks inflammation only but the M and I am not sure of this attacks the white blood cells.

The usual starting dose of Plaquenil is 200 mg twice a day or 400 mg once a day, administered orally, in people weighing 80 kg or more. The usual dosage works for most people who take Plaquenil, but it is possible to increase or decrease the dose based on individual needs. It's important to watch for possible side effects and toxicity. This can help control symptoms like rashes, skin and mouth sores and joint pain. Plaquenil and your eyes. A rare side effect of Plaquenil is damage to the eye's retina. The retina is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. Using Plaquenil for a long period of time may harm the retina, causing serious vision loss. The fatigue was awful and I had weird signs akin to severe fibro. I then started back on twice daily plaquenil. Within two weeks I began to feel more human and six months later the fatigue is greatly improved. The small joints in my hand and my wrists are less sore still painful but improved. I can do more now and feel like doing more.

Therapeutic Efficacy of Chloroquine for the Treatment of Uncomplicated. Chloroquine CQ has been used for malaria treatment in Haiti for several decades, but reports of CQ resistance are scarce. The efficacy of CQ in patients with uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum undergoing treatment in Haiti was evaluated. Malaria patients were enrolled, treated with CQ, and monitored over a 42-day period.
