    Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is recommended for all women with lupus during pregnancy. Hydroxychloroquine was originally an antimalarial medication that was found to reduce the risk of lupus flares during pregnancy as well. It isn't known to cause any problems in babies and may help prevent neonatal lupus. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Malaria is more likely to cause death in a pregnant woman. If you are pregnant, talk with your doctor about the risks of traveling to areas where malaria is common. It is not known whether hydroxychloroquine passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. HOWEVER, that being said, RE has given me the option to take Plaquenil due to the overall circumstances of the previous pregnancy and working to keep us from having a repeat loss. I was wondering if anyone has taken Plaquenil, or known anyone who has.

    Hydroxychloroquine is usually considered a pregnancy Category C medication. This means that it may not be safe for use during pregnancy, although the full risks are not known.     Plaquenil and weight gain - Aug 01, 2009 I can't offer any advice on losing the weight if you come off the Plaquenil. Like Joy said, Plaquenil is the first medication they use in treating lupus. It has the least amount of side effects and seems to work well for most patients.
