    Plaquenil before surgery

So far I have no more energy than when I first started and has developed neuropathy which I have just found out from Web MD that this neuropathy is one of the side effects of this med! Saying that by stopping this it would take another 6 months to build up the benefit. There are other meds that can help with what you are experiencing, and if your doctor didn't address that then I would seek out a second opinion... Please don't stop your plaquenil until you are sure it is the right thing to do and in your best interest.

Mark a calendar to help you remember. This drug is usually started 2 weeks before entering the area with malaria. Take it once weekly while in the area, and continue taking it for 4 to 8 weeks after leaving the area or as directed by your doctor. To treat malaria, follow your doctor's instructions. Mar 13, 2014 For example, it appears to be safe for patients on methotrexate to continue on therapy during elective orthopedic surgery. Evidence for this comes from a randomized clinical trial in which patients with rheumatoid arthritis RA were assigned to either continue on methotrexate MTX or suspend taking it for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery. Reportedly 64 percent of infections that occur in patients with RA occur in the foot and ankle. In order to minimize the risks of infection and other potential complications with podiatric surgery in this patient population, this author reviews the literature and offers insights on whether medications for RA should be withdrawn, continued or modified during the perioperative period.

Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. Or maybe another doctor if you're not comfortable w/your current one.

  7. Jan 23, 2011 I was due to have gynae surgery tomorrow it may involve a small rectal resection alsobut the gynae nurse called me last Wed and told me to stop Plaquenil and postponed surgery for a week on the surgeon's orders. I had a similar but less invasive surgery last Sept and the gynae surgeon wrote to Rheuma to ask if I needed to stop Plaquenil.

Find patient medical information for Plaquenil Oral on WebMD including its uses, side effects and safety, interactions, pictures, warnings and user ratings. The American College of Rheumatology and British Society of Rheumatology recommend holding TNF-alpha antagonists for one dosing cycle before major surgery. For etanercept Enbrel, that translates to a 1-week before surgery hold, for infliximab Remicade 6-8 weeks, and for adalimumab Humira 2 weeks. Please help, my sister has sle, she has been under control with plaquenil for 15 years, she recently had surgery on both eyes, one was retinal detachment surg the other a minor lasik like procedure, ever since surgery she has been completely blind in both eyes, her retina has detached again and she is scheduled to have surgery again in 2 days.
