Plaquenil can be dangerous to children, who are particularly sensitive to the drug. Kids shouldn't take Plaquenil as a long-term treatment. Overdose can be fatal in children. Nov 12, 2009 Please don't stop your plaquenil until you are sure it is the right thing to do and in your best interest. I am on plaquenil but also experience some of the same things you do. There are other meds that can help with what you are experiencing, and if your doctor didn't address that then I would seek out a second opinion. or maybe another. If you don't have to, don't stop your plaquenil. I stopped taking the plaquenil the beginning of December. It doesn't agree with my stomach I take it with meals too. And since I hadn't had a miraculous recovery the 6 months I'd been on it, I didn't think there was any harm in stopping it.

I recently decided to stop taking Plaquenil because I was having constant chest pains even more so than I usually have due to Lupus. Since I have not taken it my chest feels so much better which is odd because chest pain is not listed as a side effect. Also I noticed that the Plaquenil I think was making me feel different but not in a good way. I can't believe you were told to stop taking plaquenil after only 6 months since it can take up to one YEAR to achieve full benefits! I don't know much about any sort of withdrawal but if I were you I'd start taking it again. I'd also have your thyroid checked. I'm hypothyroid and take levo along with he plaquenil. Just started a week ago- supposed to take a month of 2 to kick in- but so far so good. I couldn't live without plaquenil and wholeheartedly recommend it- don't be afraid to try it because it could make a huge difference for you like it did for me.
